Department Of BotanyNatural ScienceCoursesClick Here to Visit Departmental Page Establishment of DBT-BOOST (“Biotechnology based Opportunities Offered to Science & Technology Departmentsâ€, BOOST - I,2014-2019) through funding of Rs. 20 lacs received for infrastructural development of the departmentunder the BOOST scheme, Dept. of Biotechnology, Govt. of West Bengalpaved the way to its Post-graduation. The College proceeded to set up the PG course in Botany with specialization in Plant Biotechnology for which affiliation had been received from the West Bengal State University in 2016 and the lab infrastructure &equipments were all procured from the DBT funded BOOST programme. The Teaching–Learning–Evaluation process has been definitely upgraded by the utilization of resources available from the BOOST program support. College has been able to set up the Common Instrumentation facility for the various Life Science Departments by setting up the new Biotechnology Laboratory. The research facility for Faculty in the College in the field of Biotechnology has definitely gained a support from the BOOST programme. An Algal Bioresource Conservation work has already been initiated in the Biotechnology Laboratory through an UGC Major grant of 13.7 lacs from 2015-2018. The International Webinar Series on ‘Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Development: Issues, Challenges and Outcome’ was organized by the Department during August-September 2020. Currently, the Department of Botany is running an Add-on course on ‘Grow your own Mushroom’ which will hopefully be a very successful course in the long run. The PG Board of Studies of Botany headed by HOD, Dept of Botany, WBSU regularly provides guidance to the faculty for running the course successfully. The Department provides Research internships for students of other Institutes also. Four batches of students have already completed their Post-graduation from this Department. Some of them have opted for higher studies and there are few who are already placed in the job market. |
